Water. Wars were fought and lost over it. People died. Billions of humans perished in the days leading up to the end. And now I risked my life for a mere eight liters because we'd used the last natural drop of clean water on the planet five years ago.

Vee and Zach, along with a mismatch crew, are just trying to survive. Water is scarce and the government is looking for those who are hiding out. They want to use them to make water in the factories; the scary thing is you never leave once you get caught. So Vee and Zach must do what they can to stay alive and outrun the mercenaries. But when some of them get caught, the rumors they've heard might not be true. Maybe there is a world out there for them to live comfortably in and in peace. Or maybe there is something sinister lurking behind the factory's closed doors.

Books about the end of the world, or what seems like the end of the world to the characters involved, is just my cup of tea. Or glass of water? Ha! I couldn't stop myself. Get it? Since they have no fresh water anymore? Oh good grief. Moving on. Seriously though, these types of books get my mind turning and wondering. They make me think of the things I could live without or ways I would outwit those out to cause harm. And when a book gets a reader so involved, well, that is just fine by me. I would rather be so engrossed in a book, than to just have something to read and not get anything out of it.

As for the characters...I adored them. Vee is a fighter and a don't-take-crap kind of gal. But she also has feelings for Zach and is about to let him in on those feels. Zach is a smart mouth punk at times, but he shares the same feelings as Vee. Unfortunately their relationship is short lived as they are caught by some hot headed mercenaries. Not entirely sure how I feel for Riley though. He is one that I will have to keep reading on to try and figure out. Maybe, just maybe, he will redeem himself as the series continues.

I wasn't sure if this was going to be a series or not as I started it, but when the end came and proved that it was, I was happy. I realized as I got to that crazy ending I wanted more. I wanted more of the story, more of the characters. And now I have to impatiently wait for more to come. But can you imagine a world without fresh water? I know I can't. And it is rather scary to imagine.
